ANON.
ORIGINAL WATERCOLOURS OF WILD MAMMALS.
1840s
Nineteen original watercolours - all of "exotic" mammals, mainly bovine, caprine & ovine - totally unfaded, each measuring in the region of 8" x 8", on large sheets measuring approximately 13" x 16". The paper is Whatman, dated with watermark - 1846. These are mostly in excellent condition. Attributed by a colleague to Sir Charles Hamilton Smith, who was a traveller, collector and writer. However, a reputable London bookseller's opinion opposes this theory. An interesting collection of 19th century wildlife art.
