Each volume has 32 plates, in which the first 22 volumes the plates are tinted, heightened with white; the last 7 volumes gradually change to plain plates. All volumes in the uniform pictorial gilt cloth, with all edges gilded. A vast majority of these volumes are in excellent condition; most of the spines are faded, and there are sporadic blemishes such as bruised corners or hinges slightly sprung. It is rare to find a complete run of this fine sporting magazine series. Odd volume quite often appear, selling for an average of about £40 each. Schwerdt (vol.1, page 180) lists a run of 27 volumes 1885-1910. Subjects covered are very wide ranging - stalking in Scotland, racing, hunting, chamois hunting, stalking bighorn, Indian falconry, duck in Mexico, springbok, duiker etc in South Africa, billiards, coaching, yachting, wapiti, pike, trout, salmon, pheasant, partidge, grouse etc.etc.etc. Many obscure authors, but also famous names such as "Snaffle", A.I.McConnochie, Cuthbert Bradley, Frank Bonnett, Arthur Sharp, "East Sussex".....
