Superb, full size facsimile of one of the great works of wildlife art, originally published in 1840 and containing the 30 colour paintings as well as the drawings, a colour portrait & map. Copy no.237 of an edition of 550 handprinted books, signed by the printer. Quarter bound in Rhodesian buffalo leather, cloth sides. Pp. xxx,(iii),(i,vi),vi,175,(1,1), colour frontispiece (portrait), vignette title-page, 30 colour plates, drawings, facsimiles, map. The upper cover is rather marked, the lower only lightly. The endpapers are a bit speckled round the edges; the contents are mint. The best facsimle reprint of this rare and expensive work. If you want a copy of the first edition - published in 1840 - you will need well over £15,000.
